Cross cultural awareness

Cross cultural awareness

For a successful international assignment, cultural preparation is crucial. It reduces culture shock and prevents the premature return of expatriates. A critical element to success on the global stage is cultural competence, and this is where cross cultural training comes in.

Expat-to-Expat works together closely with InterAct, a Nairobi based training center, which offers cross cultural training and coaching to individuals and companies who want to improve their ability to live, work and communicate with people from different cultural backgrounds. We offer various recurrent training as well as bespoke courses.

For newly arrived expats, two courses are of special relevance:

Basic Cross Cultural Awareness training
In this training, you will get to know more about the culture of your host country, Kenya. Moreover, we will help you reflect on your own culture, deal with culture shock, and assist you in the adaptation to a new culture. You will develop your cross cultural skills, whilst sharing your experiences with others in the group.
The course typically includes the following topics: cultural identity, cultural values and attitudes, best practices to handle culture shock, cross cultural communication, etiquette.
This course is specifically aimed at new-comers in Kenya, but everyone who feels like brushing up their knowledge about culture, is welcome. It will help you to adjust well during the first months of transitioning and to enjoy the enriching experience of living in another culture.

Transition and Adaptation for dependants
Moving with your partner (for his or her job) can have a huge impact on your family life, your career, your role and your identity. Knowing that the success of an international transition often depends on the happiness of the whole family, we’ll help you settling in quickly and find fulfillment in your stay here in Kenya. This course typically includes the following topics: identity, talents and goal setting, career opportunities, self development and social networks, managing the household and new roles: maids, money and maintenance issues.

Approach
We offer fun-filled trainings where celebrating diversity and building respect will be the leading values. The training will take place during 3 mornings. The approach is a balanced menu of theory, exercises, and interaction between the participants. The minimum number of participants is 7, the maximum number  of participants is 12. The sessions will be led by qualified trainers, both from the expat as well as the Kenyan community.

Make a good start of your life and work in Kenya and book your space now in one of our workshops!
